Ashley Helton
Ashley is a Ph.D. student at the University of Georgia's Odum School of Ecology.

ImageAshley applies agent-based models to simulate patterns of nitrate loading to and processing within stream networks

For her master's research, Ashley used in-stream nitrate uptake data collected from eight different biomes as part of the second Lotic Intersite Nitrogen eXperiment (LINX-2) to compare patterns of biological nitrogen utilization within and among stream networks.  The LINX-2 project, including Ashley's M.S. work, was funded by the National Science Foundation.

As part of her Ph.D. program, Ashley is investigating interactions among hyporheic (shallow groundwater) hydrology and biological nitrogen uptake in streams and floodplains across temporal and spatial scales.  Her doctoral research is funded by a STAR Fellowship awarded to her by the U.S. Environmental Protenction Agency.  She is advised by Dr. Geoffrey Poole.

Ashley earned her B.S. in Environmental Studies at the University of Cincinnati and M.S. from the Institute of Ecology at the University of Georgia.
