Eco-metrics Receives USDA NRI Grant
Under the National Research Initiative (NRI) program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Eco-metrics, Inc. a research grant to investigate interactions among fine sediments, hydrology, and excess nitrogen in river ecosystems.  The three-year award will support continued development Eco-metrics' state-of-the-art river ecosystem model.  This model will be applied to investigate the circumstances under which reductions in surface- and ground-water exchange ("hyporheic flow") caused by excess fine sediments can alter rates of biogeochemical processing in river systems and exacerbate water quality limitations associated with excess nitrogen in streams.

The USDA distributes NRI grant monies on a competitive basis; only about 10% of grant proposals were funded in FY2005.  Eco-metrics, Inc. is the only small business among the 564 awardees for Fiscal Year 2005, the remainder of which are typically universities and other major research institutions from across the U.S.  More information about Eco-metrics' award is available from the USDA's Current Research Information System.
